We’re pleased to announce that the Southern Icons A-Z Photography exhibit curated by Meryl Truett, Donna Rosser, and Rob McDonald will be on display at the USCB Center for the Arts during this year’s third annual Pat Conroy Literary Festival.

This collection is a visual catalog of the contemporary South as it is being lived and experienced in the second decade of the twenty-first century. Twenty-six photographers were selected to contribute images. Photographs are accompanied by brief responsive statements by some of the region’s outstanding writers. Conceived in the form of an abecedary—used since medieval times to teach children language through association—the exhibition might be said to function as a primer to show in pictures what we talk about when we talk about the South today. The exhibition debuted at Slow Exposures Photography Festival in Zebulon, Georgia, to enthusiastic audiences and warm critical acclaim.

The contributing photographers include Maude Schuyler Clay, Keith Carter, William Eggeston, Kathleen Robbins, Meryl Truett, Roger May, Aaron Canipe, Jerry Seigel, Adam Bellefeuil, Brandon Thibodeaux, Tom Rankin, and many others. The participating writers include Rosemary Daniel, Harlan Greene, John Lane, Janisse Ray, Ed Madden, Clyde Edgerton, Jill McCorkle, and others.

The exhibition at USCB Center for the Arts (801 Carteret St., Beaufort, SC) is now on display and will remain so beyond the Literary Festival as well. For more information about Southern Icons A-Z, visit www.facebook.com/southerniconsatoz
